That’s right folks, football is back! The National Football League is back in action after Thursday’s kickoff game between the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, a full slate of Sunday games for Week 1 is on tap, with a good start to the season for these teams (and your fantasy team) on the line.
Will the weather have any impact on your team’s future in the 2017 season? Fortunately, Week 1 looks fairly pleasant for most. Nine (now eight) games are scheduled for a 1:00 pm eastern start, and three more kicking off in the 4:00 pm ET hour. Add onto that one Sunday night and two Monday night games, and the next 36 to 48 hours will be packed with pigskin.
Of course, while football is great entertainment, it will be an outlet to escape the threats and terror of Hurricane Irma in Florida. The major hurricane is ravaging the Sunshine State on Sunday, which also forced the postponement of the Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers game at Hard Rock Stadium. But for Floridians, football is not important right now. Surviving this hurricane is all that matters.
Fortunately for those looking for ways to get away from the nasty weather, the NFL can provide that escape. The many 1:00 pm games across CBS and FOX will have the attention of many across the country, with decent weather in store for most. The greatest threats appear to be for the Oakland Raiders vs. Tennessee Titans game in Nashville, where winds could occasionally gust to 20 to 25 mph. That could wreak havoc on the kicking game.
Here are the rest of your forecasts for the 1:00 pm eastern time kickoffs from around the National Football League:
Perhaps the only game with a decent threat of rain will be in Los Angeles, as the Rams play host to the Indianapolis Colts. Scattered thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon in and around southern California, with about a 40 percent chance of them occurring during game time. These should be more pop up in nature, with some areas experiencing storms while others may not get any at all.
Here are the forecasts for the two remaining 4:25 pm eastern kickoffs, with both games being seen on your local FOX stations:
Sunday Night Football will be in Jerry’s World in Arlington, Texas as the Dallas Cowboys welcome their NFC East rivals the New York Giants. AT&T Stadium is domed, though there is no real threat from any nasty weather for the first Sunday night game of the year.
Finally, Monday Night Football on ESPN has their only doubleheader of the 2017 schedule, with games in Minneapolis and Denver. The new U.S. Bank Stadium is domed, and any weather impacts will be limited to fans traveling to and from the game. Meanwhile, the late nightcap in Denver will be fairly comfortable, with cool temps and clear conditions.
Remember, always consult the weather before heading out to the stadium, or setting your fantasy football lineup! Enjoy the first week of NFL football, and may the odds be ever in your team’s favor.
