Memorial Day weekend has arrived, and it is the biggest weekend of the year for the world of motorsports. NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series runs their longest race of the year in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, while IndyCar will race in the historic Indianapolis 500 for the one-hundredth time. Overseas, racing will be on tap too, with the Formula One world championship racing on the streets of Monte Carlo in Monaco.
Of course, whenever there is racing on the mind, weather is the last thing to see get in the way. This holiday weekend, Mother Nature could have an impact in both Monaco and Charlotte primarily, though showers and thunderstorms could pop up on race day too. The rain would not stop the show in F1, but with the threat of a tropical storm looming for the Carolinas, the NASCAR race could be in jeopardy.
Here is the weather update I provided for Beyond The Flag, where I contribute in covering motorsports including NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula One and more. Further updates on the development of Tropical Depression Two, which could become Tropical Storm Bonnie by tomorrow, can be found here on Weather Unlimited.
